RAIL CONNECTED YARDS

Container yards are only allowed in very limited locations within the greater Los Angeles area, and those same limitations also extend across the Inland Empire.

One of the key contributing factors to the general limitations on site use is the result of the stringent stacking requirements that are imposed on operations that use these particular types of facilities

Naturally, the Elden Company has established itself as the top resource for identifying and locating the most practical and useful Container Yard locations across the southland.

We have both long-standing experience and possess unique knowledge regarding the handful of locations where container yards can actually be established.

We’re also familiar with all the precise details required in the acquisition of use approvals, in identifying specific sites, as well as being knowledgeable regarding the maximum height restrictions of each individual location.

Our clients have found that when it comes to Container Yards, working with the Elden Company not only saves them time & money, but generally eliminates whatever difficulty or aggravation that can arise from trying to identify, acquire, & secure approval for sites required for this specific use.

In the early 1980s there were less than half a million shipping containers entering the port of Los Angeles. By the 1990s that amount had increased to just over 3 million.

As of 2018  Nine and a half million cargo containers transited through the Port of Los Angeles. Combined with the Port of San Pedro over 12 million containers passed through the Southern California ports, the largest in Western North America.

That’s a far cry from the first 200,000 standardized shipping containers that were brought through Los Angeles and San Diego by the U.S. Navy in 1967 using the Sealand container system technology first invented by Malcolm MacLean in 1957.

At the time of his death in 2001 the industry that MacLean had founded  with a single vessel carrying 50 containers had reshaped the entire global economy. Last year China shipped more containers worldwide than any other country, and a huge percentage of those entered the port of Los Angeles.

Elden Company stands as the preeminent industrial real estate consultant for managing properties dedicated for the use of shipping container storage across Southern California.
